The National Business Coalition on Health held its 18th Annual Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona, November 18-20. Neil Goldfarb, Marty Romney (Jefferson School of Population Health), and James Startare (City of Philadelphia) presented a workshop on value-based insurance design. It included an overview of the V-BID concept and a summary of recommendations developed in partnership with Philadelphia Department of Public Health for smoking cessation, hypertension, and lipidemia control. Discussion identified issues in implementing V-BID and James presented a case study on the City of Philadelphia's benefit design strategy. During discussion other coalitions shared evidence for V-BID effectiveness, best strategies for implementation, and challenges that coalitions and employers face in seeking the hasten the broad dissemination of value-based purchasing.
