Dramatic Increase in Hospital Quality and Safety Reporting Since 2012
PHILADELPHIA, PA— (January 19, 2016)— A record 32 hospitals (out of 53) in southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware participated in the 2016 Leapfrog Group Hospital Survey, where the Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health (GPBCH) serves as a Leapfrog Regional Leader in partnership with the Delaware Valley Health Care Coalition (DVHCC). The number of hospitals in this region reporting to Leapfrog has dramatically increased in the last five years from three to 32. Nationwide, a record-breaking total of 1,859 out of 3,781 hospitals completed the 2016 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Through the Leapfrog Group efforts, transparency on hospital quality and safety continues to increase in our region and across the country. This is good news for purchasers and consumers, who can make valid comparisons and use information to select a provider. Studies have shown that hospitals that publicly report their data are more likely to improve on the reported measures.
According to Neil Goldfarb, President and CEO of GPBCH, "More than two-thirds of hospitals in the Greater Philadelphia region are now participating in the national Leapfrog reporting effort. We will celebrate this milestone, among other accomplishments, at the GPBCH Fifth Anniversary Celebration on April 6th. We want to thank those hospitals for their willingness to publicly disclose their quality and safety data, and urge the 21 hospitals that have not yet reported their data to join this important national initiative to improve patient safety and quality of care. We will continue our efforts to educate employers and consumers on the importance of seeking care at facilities that are willing to publicly share their data."
