The number of Philadelphia-area hospitals participating in The Leapfrog Group’s annual quality and safety survey climbed to a record 70 percent last year.
The Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health (GPBCH), which serves as Leapfrog’s regional leader, has spent much of the past decade coordinating efforts to encourage hospital participation in the voluntary reporting initiative.
In 2018, 37 out of 53 hospitals in the region covered by the GPBCH, which encompasses southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware, participated in the 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Seven years ago, just 5 percent participated.
Neil Goldfarb, president and CEO of GPBCH, said the University of Pennsylvania Health System, one of the largest local health systems, participated in the survey for the first time in 2018.
“They join many of the region’s other hospitals and health systems that have demonstrated their commitment to improving care for the populations they serve by making their performance data publicly available,” Goldfarb said. “We hope the four Main Line Health hospitals, five Tower Health hospitals and the few independent hospitals that are not yet participating in the Leapfrog Survey will do so in 2019.”
