In mid-January, GPBCH distributed a new Action Brief to our members on the importance of lung cancer screening. The Coalition’s Employee Health & Well-being Interest Group had identified that few members were aware of the recommendations issued by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) regarding screening by low-dose CT scan for high-risk individuals as identified by smoking history. The Action Brief reviews the rationale for the recommendation, the role of low-dose CT scan in detecting early-stage lung cancers, and potential benefits to employers in promoting screening for the eligible population. The Action Brief, funded by Genentech and GPBCH membership dues, has also been distributed through the Smoke-Free Philly Coalition and the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions.
