Four influential national employer groups, representing in total over 12,000 employers with more than 55 million lives, sent a letter to every hospital and ambulatory surgery center in the country urging them to participate in the annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey and Leapfrog Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Survey.
The letters, co-signed by the Health Transformation Alliance, ERISA Industry Committee, National Alliance of Health Care Purchaser Coalitions, and the Business Group on Health, send a strong signal to the health care market that high quality, safe care is expected, and that transparent reporting of this information will achieve greater health care value. The pandemic has only emphasized the importance of achieving greater healthcare value to the business community and the public at large.
The four organizations composed of large, self-insured employers nationwide use Leapfrog data to inform patient referral preferences, benefit designs, and direct contracting considerations. Members of the employer groups plan to reach out directly to health care facilities in their networks to participate in the Leapfrog Surveys.
The Leapfrog Hospital Survey and the Leapfrog ASC Survey collect critical information on quality and safety unavailable from other sources on measures of key importance to employers, like rates of C-sections, never events, pediatrics, practices to prevent medication errors, and safety of common surgical procedures.
Results from the 2021 Surveys will be publicly available this summer, and current Survey results are found at
