PHILADELPHIA, PA— (April 9, 2024)— The
Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health (GPBCH) is honoring 14 regional hospitals with the GPBCH Regional Quality and Safety Awards. The award recognizes performance excellence in quality and safety based on results from the 2023 Leapfrog Survey and Hospital Safety Grade. For the first time, the GPBCH Regional Quality and Safety Awards will also recognize performance excellence in Maternity Care (5 hospitals) and “Most Improved” Hospitals between 2020 and 2023 (4 hospitals). One ambulatory surgery center (ASC) is also being recognized for excellence as measured by the Leapfrog ASC survey. The awards ceremony will take place on April 18th at the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia. This annual event brings together a large number of healthcare leaders and employer purchasers to discuss the value of the Leapfrog metrics in driving real progress towards a safer, higher-quality, more transparent health care system for all and to recognize top performing hospitals and ASCs in the region.
According to GPBCH President and CEO, Neil Goldfarb, “creating transparency on quality and safety is a priority for our employer members, who represent over 1.6 million Americans covered through their benefits plans. We know that publication of data drives improvement, and many of our member organizations are using Leapfrog data in their consumer education and health benefits programs. We applaud the recognized hospitals and ASC for their achievements and continue to encourage the systems that do not participate in the Leapfrog Survey to be more transparent on their performance using this important tool.”
To qualify for the GPBCH Regional Quality and Safety Hospital Award, a hospital must have reported on all applicable measures on the 2023
Leapfrog Hospital Survey and must have Achieved the Standard for survey measures on Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for Physician Staffing, and Responding to Never Events. In addition, a hospital must have Achieved the Standard for at least 8 out of 13 (62%) specific Survey measures and received a “B” or higher for the spring and fall 2023
Hopistal Safety Grade. For an ASC to qualify for the GPBCH Regional Quality and Safety ASC Award, an ASC must have achieved the Standard for at least 7 of 10 (70%) specific Survey measures on the 2023 Leapfrog ASC Survey.

GPBCH) is an employer coalition with 54 member organizations representing more than 1.6 million covered lives. GPBCH serves as the Leapfrog Regional Leader for southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware, and also tracks Leapfrog data for southern New Jersey, where the New Jersey Healthcare Quality Institute serves as Leapfrog Regional Leader. The Coalition’s mission is to increase the value of health benefit spending for the region’s employers, by improving workforce and community health, increasing healthcare quality and safety, and reducing health care costs. The Coalition represents employer interests in working with health plans, health care providers, benefits consultants, suppliers and other system stakeholders to address population health priorities and to ensure that when health care is needed it is accessible, affordable, equitable, high-quality, and safe.
About The Leapfrog Group
Founded in 2000 by large employers and other purchasers,
The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps for patient safety in health care. The flagship
Leapfrog Hospital Survey and
Leapfrog Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Survey collect and
transparently report hospital and ASC performance, empowering purchasers to find the highest-value care and giving consumers the lifesaving information they need to make informed decisions. The
Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, Leapfrog's other main initiative, assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.
