Six Area Hospitals Receive Coveted National Distinction
PHILADELPHIA, PA, December 11, 2017 – The Leapfrog Group has named six hospitals in Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey to its 2017 national list of Top Hospitals. The elite award is one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive in safety and quality. The winning facilities were officially recognized at Leapfrog’s Annual Top Hospitals Ceremony in Arlington, Virginia on December 7, 2017.
“As a regional leader for Leapfrog, the Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health thanks the hospitals recognized for their leadership in patient safety and transparency. The many hospitals in our region that participate in the annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey demonstrate their commitment to publicly sharing this information, which spurs continual safety and quality improvement and enables informed decision-making for employers and patients”, states Neil Goldfarb, President and CEO of the Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health. “Some hospital systems in our region still do not participate in the annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey. On behalf of the region’s employer purchasers, I urge them to do so, as it would demonstrate their commitment to the populations they serve.”
This year, Leapfrog recognized 109 Top Hospitals across the country. Of those, 10 were Top Children’s Hospitals, 45 Top General Hospitals, 18 Top Rural Hospitals and 36 Top Teaching Hospitals. In the Greater Philadelphia area, the hospitals to receive the Leapfrog Top Hospital Award are: Doylestown Hospital, Inspira Medical Center Vineland, Jeanes Hospital, Jefferson Stratford Hospital, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and Virtua Voorhees Hospital.
“Leapfrog Top Hospitals are the nation’s role models for putting patients first,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the Boards, management, clinicians, staff and volunteers whose dedication makes all the difference.”
The Top Hospital award is given to teaching, general, rural and children's hospitals that publicly report their performance through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and meet the high standards defined in the Top Hospitals Methodology. This includes infection rates, maternity care and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors, among other standards.
